India at Tokyo Paralympics Day 3 Bhavina Patel is through to the Semifinals – Rakesh Kumar sealed a stunning comeback to finish third in the men’s individual archery round. The veteran shot his personal best of 699 points out of a possible 720, hitting 53 10s and 17 X’s in his 72 arrows. Meanwhile, Shyam Sundar Swami ended with a season-best of 682 points in the field and 21st in the round. The duo will now compete in the 1/32 eliminations round tomorrow from 5:30 AM IST.

Fellow Para Archers Harvinder Singh and Vivek Chikara finished 21st and 10th respectively. Singh shot a total of 600 points, while Vivek managed 609 out of a potential 720.

Sakina Khatun put in a brilliant performance but fell short of a medal win in her debut at the Paralympics. Khatun was out of medal contention after four other athletes had crossed the 100kg mark as she struggled to lift the 93kg load. She eventually did lift the bar successfully, but could only muster a fifth-place finish.

Bhavina Patel continued her superb form as the paddler reached the quarter-final of the Class 4 table tennis at the Tokyo Paralympics. Having lost her opening game, Patel bounced back with back to back wins, defeating Megan Shackleton of Great Britain on Thursday, before a win over Brazil’s Joyce de Oliveira. Bhavina clinched a straight-game win to continue her dominance and put her within touching distance of a podium spot.

Meanwhile, Star archer Jyoti Balyan had a day to forget as she finished 15th in the Compound Archery event. Balyan claimed 671 points with her 72 shots at the target, with a strong finish in the end, which saw her hit her best sequence of 58.

In the Men’s Individual Compound Ranking, Rakesh Kumar and Shyam Sundar Swami will be in action from 12:30 PM onwards. Harvinder Singh and Vivek Chikara will be in action in the men’s individual compound open ranking round from 12:30 PM onwards.
In swimming, India’s Suyash Narayan Jadhav will take part in the men’s 200m individual medley.

India’s flag-bearer at the Olympics, Tek Chand will be in action in the men’s shot put F55 Final from 3:30 PM onwards
