UFC 265: George Foreman calls Derrick Lewis a “machine of destruction”: Derrick Lewis has staged a commendable run in the UFC so far, amassing the status of a high-profile knockout artist. Meanwhile, ‘The Black Beast’ is now targeting to become the first-ever Interim heavyweight champion of the promotion against Ciryl Gane at UFC 265.
Ahead of the high-voltage clash, boxing veteran George Foreman has passed some valuable comments on his ex-prodigy. Referring to Lewis’ hard punches and impeccable boxing skills, Foreman revealed he wanted the UFC star to become a pro boxer. Nevertheless, Foreman also billed Derrick Lewis’ move to the MMA as a smart one.
Speaking via Mike Coppinger, George Foreman said, “He made that move [to MMA], and it was a wise move, but it was a heartbreaking move for me because he could have been a great boxer. A Machine of destruction.”
Lewis has 14 KOs in the UFC already and holds a professional record of 25-7-0 (1 NC). Perhaps, several veterans tout him as the biggest puncher in the heavyweight division. Although several other fighters can offer him a tough challenge, Lewis is rightly a threat to every other contender in his division.
That said, the upcoming scrap against Ciryl Gane might be a brutal reality check for the 6’3” tall orthodox fighter. Akin to Lewis, Gane has showcased sheer progression with every bygone bout. While the pair are now aligned for a historic Interim title fight, it leaves the door open to several possible outcomes.
Derrick Lewis vs Ciryl Gane – UFC 265 Preview
After an undefeated run of six fights, Gane seems ready for the top-tier competition, and a win over Lewis will mandate his spot to challenge for the heavyweight gold. 9-0 as a pro-MMA fighter, fans consider Gane to be the perfect antidote to Lewis’ sheer prowess.
However, ‘The Black Beast’ can rightly surpass his undefeated opposition. Having faced some of the best fighters in the roster, Lewis brings a lot of experience with him and it can trouble Cury Gane in the cage.
