The Danish staged a comeback in the second set after getting thrashed in the opened set. However, Barty kept her nerves during the dying moments of second set to prevent a delay in her victory.
Owner of five titles this season including her second career Grand Slam at Wimbledon, Barty had 33 winners compared to 14 by Tauson but lacked focus at key moments, converting just five of 19 break opportunities. Still, the 25-year-old Australian did what was needed to advance to the third round where she will face American Shelby Rogers or Romanian Sorana Cirstea
The Aussie is yet to lose a single set in the tournament. She had won her previous fixture in straight sets Barty is in quest of her maiden US Open title after clinching Wimbledon and Cincinnati Masters. The 25-year-old has won 9 out of her last 10 matches. Barty has a phenomenal win-loss ratio of 21:2 on the hardcourt surfaces in 2021. However, she has never made it past the 4th round in US Open.
