Novak Djokovic vs Jenson Brooksby

US Open 2021 LIVE – Novak Djokovic LIVE Day 8:

World No.1 Novak Djokovic on Tuesday defeated 20-year-old Brooksby to storm in the Quarterfinals of the US Open. The 34-year-old started off with a falter, losing the opening set 1-6. What followed next was an evenly poised contest with Brooksby matching the 20-time Grand Slam from toe-to-toe. However, the Serbian kept his nerve to clinch the final two sets in a style. He was full of praise for the youngster after he came from behind to win the match.

Alexander Zverev vs Jannick Sinner

World No.4 Alexander Zverev is in sensational form at the US Open 2021. He is now 15 games unbeaten across all competitions as he made light work of Jannik Sinner, claiming a 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 win. Should he continue his winning run, a potential semi-final matchup against World No.1 Novak Djokovic awaits the German ace.

Zverev is in the best form of his career, winning the Tokyo Olympics gold, before clinching the title at Cincinnati. He has just lost three sets during this streak, showing great ruthlessness, helping him remain fresh for games.

“Players with confidence who have played a lot of matches usually know what to do in these situations,” Zverev said in his on-court interview. “I think I played pretty good tennis in the second set and the first set as well. I feel like I played one bad game in the whole match and it made it very difficult in the third set, so I’m happy to be through in straights.”

Zverev is yet to win a grand slam title and should he do so at the Flushing Meadows, he will become the second after Andy Murray to have won the Olympic Gold and the US Open in the same year. The German will next play in-form South African Lloyd Harris, who battled past big-serving American Reilly Opelka 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.

Set 1

  • Zverev hits back on the serve, takes first set 6-4
  • Sinner holds on, saves set point to reduce the deficit to 5-4
  • Sinner hits back, but Zverev restores the lead, one break away from winning first set. 5-3
  • Zverev continues dominance, goes 4-2 ahead
  • Zverev shows his class, breaks to go 3-2
  • Zverev hits back instantly, restores parity at 2-2
  • Sinner holds his serve, leads 2-1 in opening exchanges
  • Alexander Zverev, Jannick Sinner make good starts, take their first service games. Scores 1-1

World No.4 Alexander Zverev is in sensational form at the US Open 2021. He is expected to continue his stellar form in the tournament and ease past 13th seed Jannick Sinner to enter round 4. Like Djokovic Zverev too has lost only a couple of sets in the first three matches at the US Open. He is unbeaten in his last 10 matches in men’s singles. He has won as many as 17 out of 22 hard court matches in 2021. Sinner, on the other hand, has managed hard-fought victories against Gael Monfils, Z Svajda and Max Purcell.  Meanwhile, the 16th ranked player has won 23 out of 31 hard court matches in 2021.

Alexander Zverev has had a relatively comfortable route to the last 16 and takes on Italian Jannik Sinner, who has gone through the wringer and been on court nearly 10 hours, double that of the fourth seed.

“It’s great to spend as little time as possible on the court in the first week because that is where you kind of gain and win in the second week,” Zverev said.

Emma Raducanu vs Shelby Rogers

Emma Raducanu’s dream run at the Flushing Meadows continues on Tuesday as she became the youngest to reach the US Open 2021 Quarter-finals. The 18-year-old British prodigy made light work of Shelby Rogers, who settled for a 6-2, 6-1 loss at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Raducanu’s straight-sets win meant that she is yet to lose a set in New York, and her prowess has seen her being billed as one of the shock candidates for the title.

Raducanu, ranked 150th in the world, did not have the most auspicious of starts, conceding the first two games in set 1 to Rogers. However, the 18-year-old flicked a switch and won 11 games on the bounce to get on course for a dominating win. She will now face off against Swiss ace and Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals.

Speaking after her win, Raducanu said, “It feels absolutely amazing to be here at the US Open … I’m so happy to have come through and overcome some of the nerves at the beginning”.

Set 2

  • A late Rogers charge not enough as Raducano makes it to the US Open 2021 quarter-finals with a 6-2, 6-1 win
  • Rogers finally wins a game in the second set, delays Raducanu’s celebrations.
  • Raducanu makes it eleven successive games without a loss, one game away from win.
  • Raducanu continues dominance extends lead to 4-0.
  • Shelby Rogers is no match as Raducanu oozes class, takes 2-0 lead.

Set 1

  • Raducanu goes on a winning spree, takes set 1 6-2.
  • Raducanu breaks, first set evenly poised at 2-2
  • Raducanu wins first game cuts deficit to 2-1
  • Rogers starts her serve well, takes an early 2-0 lead
  • Shelby Rogers breaks Raducanu’s very first serves, asserts herself with a 1-0 lead

Karolina Pliskova advances to Quarterfinals
Fourth-seeded Karolina Pliskova mounted a strong defensive effort to send Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova packing 7-5 6-4 in the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Monday, keeping on track her bid for a maiden major title.

The Wimbledon runner-up fired off seven forehand winners and converted on break point in the final game in the first set, before fending off six of Pavlyuchenkova’s seven break point opportunities in the second set inside the Grandstand.

The Czech had lost in the pair’s previous two encounters – in Madrid this year and at the 2020 Australian Open – but would not be denied a fourth trip to the U.S. Open quarter-final as she came out on top in a 14-shot rally on the second-to-last point before breaking Pavlyuchenkova’s serve to close out the match.

The world number four has put up an astonishing 58 aces so far at Flushing Meadows this year, by far the most of any of the remaining players, and next faces either Greek Maria Sakkari or Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the quarter-final.

Iga Swiatek vs Belinda Bencic

Belinda Bencic continued her stellar form as she knocked out World No.7 Iga Swiatek in straight sets at the US Open 2021 round of 16. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist played out an exhilarating first set which stretched into the tie-breaker, with Bencic eventually clinching it by 7-6 (14-12). The Swiss then powered through the second set with no real threat, to reach the quarter-finals, the only second time she has reached the stage in New York. Swiatek meanwhile will be disappointed as her wait to reach a maiden US Open quarter-final goes on.
