consumer durables company Usha International continues its association with Delhi Ultimate and Hawabaaz to sponsor the Usha Play Delhi Hat 20 at St. Stephen’s College. The event brought together players from different socio-economic backgrounds, skill sets and age groups ranging from 9 to over 40 years. Players across all levels participated in the tournament including national players, beginners from schools, colleges and working professionals with an idea to come together as a community and learn from each other. Usha International adding to the initiative, provided the players with USHA Play flying discs made by Discraft – USA, the world leader in disc sports.
The format of this tournament stood out as the organizers did not take the conventional system of playoffs, knockout and finals. This was to ensure every player gets an equal opportunity to learn through the experience of playing and continues playing the sport. The teams were formed by picking the names of the participants from a hat and evenly dividing 16 teams with an experienced player as a mentor for each team. This way, players could use guidance to ensure maximum use of this learning opportunity. The ‘one of a kind’ tournament saw an overwhelming response with more than 270 individual registrations making it one of the biggest tournaments in the Delhi-NCR region.
Komal Mehra, Head – Sports Initiatives and Associations at Usha International, said, “It’s heart-warming to see how the sport inspires college students to create this space where people from different walks of life and demographics comes together to play. USHA believes in creating more inclusive, equal and positive opportunities for the youth to develop. We believe such events at the grassroots shall strengthen our society to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle.”
