Indian Yodhas will stake their final claim at the UWW World Championships-2018 glory as the Greco Roman 77kg, 97 kg and 130 kg action starts in Budapest, Hungary, today (Saturday).
Three Indians Greco Roman wrestlers – Gurpreet Singh(77 kg), Hardeep (97 kg) and Naveen(130 kg) – will start their pursuit for the UWW World Championship glory.
Gurpreet is scheduled to take on Kyrgyzstan’s Kairatbek Tugolbaev. Among other Indians to take to the mat today, Hardeep in the 97 kg opening round will take on Chauchri Ataki of Morocco while in the 130 kg category Naveen will start his campaign with the bout against Norway’s Oskar Marvik.
Recently, Pooja Dhanda bagged women’s 57 kg bronze with a 10-7 verdict over Grace Bullen of Norway. She thus became only the fourth Indian women grapplers after Alka Tomar, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat to win a UWW World Championship medal.
Earlier, Bajrang Punia had created a history for India by securing his second World Championship medal – a silver to add to the bronze he had won in the previous edition of the UWW World Championship.
