Bajrang Punia has maintained his top billing as Indian wrestlers have strengthened their presence in the United World Wrestling rankings table.
In a first for India, 15 wrestlers from the country have made it to the UWW top ranked wrestlers chart.
Punia tops the table in the 65 kg men’s freestyle category with 78 ranking points with the second and third positions going to the Japanese and Russian wrestlers respectively.
Among other Indians, Rahul Aware is placed sixth in the 61 kg category, Amit Dhankhar (76 kg) is in the 10th position. Praveen Rana also occupies the sixth position in 79 kg, while Deepak Punia (92 kg) and Sumit (125 kg) are ranked ninth and eighth respectively.
Gyanendra has become the first Greco Roman wrestler from India to achieve a UWW Ranking as he breaks into the top ten in the 60 kg category.
Among girls, Seema (50 kg) and Vinesh Phogat (53 kg) are in the eighth and sixth positions in their respective weight categories. Pooja Dhanda (57 kg) is placed a respectable fourth. In the 59 kg weight group two Indian girls Sarita and Manju are positioned fifth and ninth respectively.
Ritu Phogat (65 kg) and Divya Kakran (68 kg) are both placed in the No. 10 position in their weight groups.
