Aware had a great run at the world championships and he defeated American, Tyler Lee Graff 11-4 to ensure he finished on the podium. Aware, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, made a thunderous start to his challenge with an emphatic 13-2 victory over Turkmenistan’s Kerim Hojakov. Against Kazakhstan’s Rassul Kaliyev in the last-eight round, the Indian had to dig deep and relied on his finesse to secure a 10-7 victory. He, however, had lost his semifinal bout 6-10 to Beka Lomtadze of Georgia and thus reached the bronze medal match.

Lomtadze finally went on to win the gold at the world championships and that has resulted in him taking the top spot in the 61kg weight category followed by Aware.
