The qualifiers to complete the line-up for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics hockey competition for men are scheduled from October 25 to 27 when the top seven nations in the qualifying group will host the teams placed between eighth and 14th positions.

The women’s qualifiers are scheduled from November 1 to 3.

A draw today (Monday) will determine which team gets to play whom for two matches, outcome of which will determine the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

India will be competing for Tokyo 2020 berths in both men’s and women’s hockey competition. The Blue Brigades have won the test events for men and women at the Tokyo Olympic Games hockey stadium.

As per the FIH rules the teams placed between first and third position will be drawn to play either of the teams between number 12 and 14 position. That creates a good probability of third-ranked India getting a chance to host Pakistan, who are in the 13th position.

Hockey India will play host to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers in October for the men and in November for women. Since the Indian eves are ranked seventh, they also get the privilege of being the host for the qualifiers.

The FIH will today determine the final draw for the at the International Hockey Federation headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“We are delighted to inform you that the draw to determine the matches of the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic qualifiers will be held on September 9 at 1630 (hours IST) at the headquarters of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Lausanne, Switzerland. It will be conducted by FIH CEO Thierry Weil and will be streamed live on the FIH Facebook page,” FIH has announced.
