Watch: Moeen Ali stars with a quickfire 45 ball 85 and three wickets in England’s warm up for Ireland series

Newly appointed England vice-captain Moeen Ali hit a quickfire 85 as his side posted 325 in 40 overs after Jonny Bairstow struck a hundred against the side led by Eoin Morgan in England first warm-up fixture ahead of the Ireland series.

Bairstow’s innings contained 16 fours and seven sixes while Moeen proved no less belligerent as he made 85 off only 45 balls with seven boundaries and six maximums.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid took four wickets, including that of good friend Moeen, but leaked 65 runs in his seven overs, with Bairstow routinely clearing the rope off his Yorkshire team-mate.

For team Morgan, Ben Duckett scored the highest with 68 as the skipper himself contributed with a 33 that comprised three maximums. Adil Rashid tried to save grace with his 21 ball-30 but was not enough as Team Morgan succumbed to a 100 runs defeat after managing just 225 with no wickets in hand.

The England squad for the series is scheduled to be announced next week. A warmup match between England Lions v Ireland will be played on Sunday, July 26 (2pm).

England will play 3 ODIs against Ireland in a biosecure bubble at Southampton from July 30. The 2nd and 3rd ODIs will be played on August 1 and 4. England had announced a 24-man training group for the ODI series, which will mark the return of international limited-overs fixtures after the enforced break due to the novel coronavirus pandemic
