Week 40: India TV capitalises with Veeru; Aajtak still leads- InsideSport

Aajtak continues to dominate the Hindi news genre sports programming, even as India TV has made significant gains with Virender Sehwag.

The Broadcast Audience Research Council data for week 40 (September 30 – October 6) has three Cricket Kee Baat shows on India TV, featuring veteran sports presenter Sanmip Rajguru with Virender Sehwag, in the top ten list for Hindi News Channels sports programmes. A big gain for the channel, which had one show on the top ten list last week.

Aajtak continues to live up to its No. 1 position even as India TV’s gain has turned dented its lead at the top. The week 40 list still has five Aajtak programmes among the top ten.

Khelo Bindaas Jito Jhakas on Aajtak on Sunday, October 1, is the number one show for the week with 6,30,890 impressions and a TVR of .44 in the M22+ ABC targeted group. Cricket Kee Baat on the same day comes second with 4,26, 340 impressions and.30 TVR.

ABP News’ Diggajon Ka Mahadangal at No 7 and Big Fight on News Nation at No. 10 are the other two shows in the Hindi news genre sports top ten list.

Sehwag with his frank and unbiased opinion has turned out to be the clincher for India TV. Show host Rajguru has succeeded in getting national sports headlines during his candid chats with Sehwag, who does not believe in mincing words.

“I am convinced with Veeru around the viewers will continue to get unbiased and valuable insight into the game. He speaks what he thinks is correct, and doesn’t care about being politically correct. That trait of Sehwag is the best value addition for any chat show and the most refreshing factor for Indian sports broadcast.”

“With a strong and honest voice like Sehwag around, my role becomes limited to touch the relevant subjects and get the best out of the expert. Veeru no doubt makes the profession easier and interesting,” adds Rajguru.

Aajtak continues to strike big on the strength of its platform, an array of top experts and host Vikrant Gupta, with a good command on sports.

For the English news genre, India Today Television and Times Now share two each among the top six shows with the BBC and CNN News 18 bagging one apiece.

However, the viewership data badly diminishes the significance of this list. The best show for the week has a mere 3,350 impressions in comparison to 6,30,890 for the No. 1 sports show on Hindi News Channels.
