The England pace department- Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan and Tom Curran put up a stellar display to script a comeback and help the Three Lions seal the opening T20 encounter against Australia.
Archer kickstarted Australia’s remarkable collapse of six for 50 in eight overs by dismissing the tourists’ captain, Aaron Finch, with a delivery timed at 93mph, and then yorked the dangerous David Warner for 58. With Mark Wood touching 95mph at the other end, the Australians began to panic – and ended up losing by two runs.
Earlier, Aussie skipper Aaron Finch and David Warner put the visitors off to a flier start in their run chase of 163 runs.
The pair put on 98 runs for the opening stand and while it continued a hot run of form for the duo — Warner is averaging 118.25 since the start of last summer and Finch 45.50 — neither was able to cash in as they so often have of late.
Tom Curran also put up a great performance, restricting a tight last over to ensure the win for Eoin Morgan’s men.
England were outsiders till the penultimate stage with 34 needed off 28 balls and six wickets in hand, but Jordan conceded just four from the penultimate over to leave 15 needed off Curran’s last six balls and they went for just 12 to secure victory by two runs.
