Bangladesh Premier League opening ceremony will have Indian performers. But will the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan grace the occasion? The Bangladesh Cricket Board has expressed the desire to have SRK and Alia Bhatt performances at the opening ceremony.
The fifth edition of BPL is slated to start from 5th November. The opening ceremony will be staged three days prior to the opening match – on November 2, 2017. BCB had not organized any inaugural show for the fourth edition last year.
For this season, a dazzling opening ceremony is on the cards. BCB is reportedly talking to some leading singers from India for live performances. Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal are tipped to rock the stage.
The BCB had also expressed their interest for Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt for the event. However, the organisers feel that they will not be able to raise enough funds to meet the high fee of the Bollywood megastars.
Sheikh Sohel, a member of the BCB governing committee was quoted by bdcricket.com as saying: “In this year’s BPL opening ceremony we want to bring music stars instead of film stars. According to the last meeting of our governing council, we have changed our decision of inviting Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt for the program. Actually these kind of performers take more money, performing for only 15-20 minutes. Also it is tough to manage schedule from them. So we changed our decision.
“We want to start the BPL this year with a colorful opening ceremony. People get more interest when BPL starts with a colorful program. For that reason we are planning to arrange the program with the performances of country’s big stars as well as foreign stars. It will be completely different this year,” he further added.
Performers at the opening ceremony will be the sole Indian attraction for the BPL as the Board of Control for Cricket in India does not permit its cricketers to participate in overseas cricket leagues.
