Wimbledon 2021: Coco Gauff defeats Kaja Juvan in straight sets to continue her dream run, progresses to fourth round- 17-year-old Kaja Juvan has defeated Kaja Juvan in straight sets in round 3 of Wimbledon 2021. She won the match 6-3, 6-3 to make it to the fourth round of Wimbledon.

While local attention was focussed on the 18-year-old British sensation Emma Raducanu on Court One, across the Grounds on Centre Court a 17-year-old was booking her place in the second week.

Coco Gauff knows what it is like to capture everyone’s attention at Wimbledon. The Floridian was herself the teenaged sensation in 2019, when she came through Qualifying to reach the fourth round. This year she is the No.20 seed and she eased into that same stage with a occasionally tricky defeat of Kaja Juven.

The Slovenian world No.102, only 20 herself and making her bow in the Wimbledon third round, showed promise and pluck. But Gauff was simply too good.

She was occasionally troubled. Late in the opening set Gauff went from 4-0 to 5-3 and 0-30 on her own serve, but stepped up a level to serve out. Similarly, she was deuce on her own serve at 0-1 in the second, but held. As if deciding it was time to get on with things Gauff then broke, and subsequently cruised to victory, though it did take her three attempts to seal the match point.

The American has yet to drop a set this Fortnight but faces her first real test on Monday, the 2018 champion Angelique Kerber, who upped her own game to beat Aliaksandra Sasanovich 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.

The promising youngster who made it to the quarterfinal of the French Open last month is coming on the back of wins against Elena Vesnina and Francesca Jones in the first two rounds. She is the favorite to win over Juvan after her straight sets over the above-mentioned players in the previous rounds.
