Wimbledon 2021: Second seed Aryna Sabalenka overpowers Elena Rybakina to secure quarterfinal berth: Aryna Sabalenka has reached the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam for the first time after beating Elena Rybakina 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The No.2 seed will play Ons Jabeur in the last eight.
After a tight start, Sabalenka moved clear, breaking Rybakina twice to take the first set in 35 minutes.
The Kazakhstani had made just 47 per cent of her first serves, and thrown in four double faults. However, she returned from a comfort break a different player, immediately breaking to love and then establishing a 3-1 lead.
Sabalenka responded with some (noisy) power hitting and thunderbolt serves but Rybakina levelled at one set-all.
The third set was also close until Sabalenka powered away from the Roland-Garros quarter-finalist, taking the final three games in a blizzard of powerful shots.
