World Athletics body postpones bidding process for 2023 World Athletics Series

World Athletics, the governing body for track and field, has today announced that bidding processes for two World Athletics Series events in 2023 have been postponed until later in the year.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, World Athletics has postponed the bidding processes for 2023 World Athletics Series events.

The bidding processes for the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships and the 2023 World Athletics Relays will now open in November 2020.

Bidding processes for future World Athletics Series events beyond 2023 remain unchanged.

Earlier the World body has suspended the Tokyo Olympics qualification period until December 2020 The news came after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) deferred the Tokyo Summer Games to from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

“Qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is suspended effective from 6 April 2020 until 30 November 2020 included,” World Athletics said in a statement.

What does the suspension of qualification period mean?

During the period, results achieved at any competition will not be considered for Tokyo 2020 entry standards or world rankings, the publication of which will also be suspended.
