World Table Tennis Contender Series: G. Sathiyan and Manika Batra among paddlers returning to action after Tokyo Olympics debacle – World Table Tennis (WTT), the new commercial wing of the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) is all set to conduct the WTT Contender Series tournament, the lowest tier of the WTT event structure, which is designed to allow up-and-coming professional players a chance to climb the rankings. The tournament sees the Indian paddlers will have the taste of International competition when the main draw begins on Tuesday.

World Table Tennis Contender Series: India’s G. Sathiyan and Manika Batra, seeded fourth and sixth respectively in the men’s and women’s singles respectively, will be hoping to have a good tournament after their Tokyo Olympics disappointment. The duo will be the contingent’s biggest raws following the withdrawal of Sharath Kamal. Sathiyan will take on France’s Can Akkuzu in the first round while Manika clashes with Sabine Winter of Germany.

World Table Tennis Contender Series: In mixed doubles, the pair of Sathiyan and Manika will take on Archana Kamath and Manav Thakkar in the first round. The third-seeded duo of Harmeet Desai and Manav, Sanil Shetty-S. Snehit will feature in men’s doubles. The other Indians in the singles’ main draw include Harmeet, Manav in men’s and Archana in women’s. The main draw will feature 32-player singles fields, 16-pair doubles and 8-pair mixed doubles.
World Table Tennis Contender Series is set to be held in Budapest from August 15 to August 20. A total prize purse of $75,000 (£54,000/€63,500) will be on offer at WTT Contender Budapest, where men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles competitions will be contested. The competition has a Top 20 Play-Down restriction, but wildcards could be provided to any player to a player within the Top 20.
