Wrestler Murder Case: After Delhi police issued a lookout notice and announced Rs 1 lakh reward for Sushil Kumar, in regards to wrestler Sagar Rana’s murder case, two-time Olympics medallist filed for an anticipatory bail in Delhi’s Rohini court. The case was heard on Tuesday (May 18). The court reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea of Sushil Kumar. The court said that the verdict will be given around 4 PM on Tuesday.
Sushil Kumar, who has been absconding along with Ajay, the co-accused in the case, has been charged with Section 302 (murder) and Section 308 (attempt to culpable homicide). Since the incident on May 5, Sushil Kumar has been on the run with Delhi Police conducting raids on multiple properties across Delhi-NCR to search for the wrestler. As per India Today, Sushil Kumar had allegedly fled to Haridwar and then to Rishikesh to evade the arrest.
The police have also announced a reward for Ajay, who is also missing and was allegedly involved in the brawl that took away Sagar Rana’s life. The other accused in the case, Prince Dalal from Jhajjar, was arrested earlier with a double-barrel gun.
Wrestler Murder Case: “Several teams have been formed to trace out alleged persons including Sushil Kumar. We’re probing the role of Sushil Kumar as allegations have been made against him, we sent our team to his house but he was not found,” Addl Deputy Commissioner of Police-I, NW Delhi told ANI.
On May 4 at midnight, a brawl took place between two groups at the parking area of Chhatrashal Stadium in Delhi. Sushil Kumar and his group allegedly assaulted and badly beaten Sagar Rana, who was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Wrestler Murder Case: Someone from the group allegedly fired shots and injured wrestlers were taken to the Trauma Centre, Civil Lines where Sagar Rana, a former junior national champion succumbed to the injuries.
Later, police arrested a few of the accused with video footage allegedly showing Sushil Kumar’s involvement. Furthermore, one of the victims also named the wrestler in the case. Police and a forensic team combed through the stadium for evidence.
