WWE RAW, broadcast on Sony Ten 1, has yet again demolished the notion that live broadcast of Indian cricket team’s international matches is the most watched sports content on Indian television. The Broadcast Audience Research Council data for the second successive week has WWE as the No. 1 sports show for the week.
WWE Survivors Series on Sony Ten 1 has been the most watched sporting event even as the week has featured the last day excitement of the India-Sri Lanka Test series opener. The No. 2 show on the list is from the home team’s heroics in the second Test against Sri Lanka. Three of the top five sports genre programme slots on Indian television belong to the WWE broadcast. WWE RAW and live telecast of WWE RAW are in the fourth and five position respectively.
A show each from the Hindi broadcast of the first and the second Tests from the India-Sri Lanka series hold the second and the third position respectively. WWE Survivors Series as the No. 1 show for the week has registered 2,849,000 impressions to be ahead of the last day action of the India-Sri Lanka first Test on Star Sports 1 Hindi, which has 2,340,000 impressions in Week 47 (November 18 to 24, 2017).
The Test matches’ viewership spanning over six hours on each match day has assured Sony Ten 1 Hindi’s return to the number one position among the sports genre channels. However, riding of the strong WWE fan following Sony Ten 1 is placed second. The next three places in the top five list are occupied by the Star Group channels, including the FTA Star Sports First.
However, the week 48 can be a tough battle for Sony Ten 1 and WWE when there will be no major programming to compete with the strong cricket content like Virat Kohli’s double century in the second Test and India’s win over the islanders.
