Mickie James, Samoa Joe, etc.
Below is a compiled list of some of the perennial talents who have been released by WWE in the last three months.
Braun Strowman (On 2 June)
The Monster Among Men Braun Strowman is the latest victim of WWE release. Despite being a former Universal Champion and defeating some of the biggest names this company had to offer, Strowman was released yesterday. His last appearance came at the Wrestlemania Backlash pay-per-view, where he lost in a triple-threat match against Lashley and Drew McIntyre.
Aleister Black (On 2 June)
Aleister Black, who just made his much-awaited return to WWE Smackdown 2 weeks back, was released from the company yesterday along with Braun Strowman. Black’s expulsion also came as a big surprise because he just made a comeback and was released two weeks later. Kalisto (On 15 April)
Kalisto was a former NXT Tag Team Champion, Cruiserweight Champion, and the United States Champion. He was almost a replica of Rey Mysterion in terms of his aura, presence, and skill set. His most memorable wins in the WWE came against the likes of Braun Strowman and Ryback, whom he defeated for the United States Championship.
Daniel Bryan (On 30 April)
The former World Champion and the leader of the ‘Yes’ movement who lit up the famous main event of Wrestlemania 30, was released on 30 April. His release wasn’t a part of WWE’s pay cut but a part of a storyline involving the current Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He was booked in a Universal Championship match on WWE Smackdown against Roman, and if he would lose, he had to leave the Blue Brand. That’s what happened, and WWE writes him off from television. There are speculations of him heading to NXT or Raw, but no robust news is out yet.
Samoa Joe (On 15 April)
Joe was released in April lot of players. The former United States champion was the biggest surprise of April releases. A concussion forced him to be out of action for nearly a year but was a regular face on WWE Raw’s commentary table. He was last seen commentating at Wrestlemania 37 before getting released on 15 April.
Mickie James (On 15 April)
A veteran of WWE, Mickie James was a 5-time Women’s and 1-time Divas Champion. She faced the axe from WWE in the same batch of Samoa Joe. Her ouster was surprising and controversial too. After her release, she got all her stuff from WWE in a ‘Trash Bag’ that stirred controversy. Mickie took a snap of the bag and took it to social media to alert everyone that WWE returned her belongings in a trash bag. Later, the man responsible for the mishap was fired by the WWE officials.
Velveteen Dream (On 19 May)

Buddy Murphy was a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion and Raw Tag Team Champion with none other than Seth Rollins. He was a vital figure in Seth Rollins’ ‘Messiah’ gimmick and was one of the regulars on WWE Raw. He got released in the latest round of WWE releases along with Braun Strowman and his close friend Aleister Black.
Ruby Riott (On 2 June)
By releasing Ruby Riott, WWE has disbanded yet another stable i.e. The Riott Squad. With a lack of authentic Women’s teams on the roster, Riott’s expulsion has been criticized heavily. Her last appearance came on last week’s Smackdown, where she, along with Liv Morgan, lost to the Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya & Tamina.
