Yogeshwar Dutt may join BJP, contest Lok Sabha poll from Sonepat

Olympic medallist wrestler may be seen on the political mat. Reports suggest that the Sonepat boy may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from his native constituency. A formal announcement about Yogeshwar’s entry in the Bharatiya Janata Party may be made soon.

Yogeshwar, according to reports, has recently met Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and asked for the Lok Sabha ticket from Sonepat. However, there might be a three-way contest for the ticket itself.

Yogeshwar has a strong fan base in Sonepat. He was born in the Bainswal Kalan taluka in the district in 1982.

The 2012 London Olympics games bronze medallist and the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion wrestler has also received Padma Shri.

His illustrious wrestling career includes an Asian Games gold, two Commonwealth Games titles, two Asian Championship and three Commonwealth Championship titles.

The Haryana Police Services officer is a deputy commissioner of police at present.
