Yonex has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sports Authority of India to promote badminton at the SAI’s regional academy in Bhubaneswar.
The Japanese badminton apparel, gear and equipment brand will invest Rs 2.6 crore to support the academy over the five-year contract period.
Japanese brand’s Indian arm, Yonex Sunrise Sports India Private Limited will be investing Rs 52.14 lakh per annum in court mats and kits to the players and coaches during the five-year contract term.
The MoU was signed by SAI executive director Roque Dias and C P Gupta from Yonex Sunrise Sports (India) Pvt. Ltd. SAI director-general and union sports secretary Incheti Srinivas was also present.
Dias said this was the first time that an initiative like this one was taken by SAI to bring in sponsorship to the academies to provide best equipment to uplift the performance of the trainees. “This will not only help the players but will also prove to be a wonderful avenue to sports firms to promote sports in bigger way,” he said.
Yonex, the equipment and apparel partner of Badminton Association of India, is also supporting various other badminton initiatives and academies in India.
