Mahmudullah who recently announced shocking retirement from Test cricket will want to continue his Test form into ODI cricket.
Zimbabwe is ranked 13th in the ICC rankings while Bangladesh is placed at 7th. However, there are many top-notch talented players on these sides who could set the stage on fire in the ODI series. We at Insidesport will take you through five in-form players to watch out for from this series.
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is in the top-notch form in 2021. The southpaw has scored 332 runs in just 9 games with the help of four fifties. Over the last 13 years, he has scored 1684 runs against Zimbabwe in 41 ODIs with three centuries and nine fifties. The 32-year-old will aim to continue his solid performance against Zimbabwe.
Shakib Al Hasan
Every since Shakib Al Hasan returned to cricket after the ban he has failed to put the same kind of impact. He has not been in top form with the bat as well as with the ball. In six matches he played in 2021 the southpaw has only scored 132 runs. With his left-arm spin, he has picked nine wickets in six games. However, if Shakib gets back in the form then he can change the course of the series on its head.
Mahmudullah hit a match-winning knock of 150 in one-of Test against Zimbabwe. He took a shocking decision to retire from Test cricket after this innings. Now the right-hand batter will aim to extend his form in ODI cricket. In 2021, the 35-year-old has scored 340 runs in nine games at an extraordinary average of 68.00.
This will be Zimbabwe’s first ODI match this year. Last year Sean Williams scored 241 runs in five games at an average of 60.25 with the help of one century and one fifty. He showed a glimpse of form in the one-off Test as well. Williams will aim to continue the good run against Bangladesh in the ODI series.
Veteran Zimbabwe batsman Brendan Taylor is in top-notch form and was disappointed that he could not score big in the one-off Test. He had scored 237 in 2020 in just six games with the help of one century and one fifty. The right-hand batsman also has a fine record of scoring 3173 runs against Bangladesh, he has scored five centuries against the Tigers.
